Response to Andrew Sullivan's "Why I Blog"

Andrew Sullivan’s arguments in favor of blogging truly made me reflect upon lots of the reason on why people do blog. As an aspiring journalist, I found it quite interesting to see a journalist’s perspective on the benefits of blogging. When Sullivan referred to blogging as the “spontaneous expression of instant thought” I thought to myself, “how cool is that?” Anytime I want to randomly reflect upon a thought, share an unexpected experience, or express an opinion, I can easily blog about. Sullivan has many reason for blogging, for him blogging is therapeutic, and also allows him to “write out loud”.  Indeed, Sullivan’s is passionate about rawness of the writing that is produced by blogging, and the fact that it is instantaneously published. When it comes to blogging, one does not have to wait for editors to approve or proofread, or deadlines to be delayed, or sources to be confirmed; in blogging, one just simply clicks a button and their writing is thrown into a massive ocean of texts, accessible to millions of people. As a professional journalist, Sullivan found it relieving that for once he didn’t have to wait on anyone to be able to publish his work. He felt that being able to publish things during the moment gave it so much more life and meaning. Additionally, he mentions how many people can comment on one’s blog, and that taking the criticism helps one grow as a blogger. After reading this article, I believe that Sullivan brings up some positive points about blogging, I’m very eager to continue bloggingJ
